Dr. Nabanita Chowdhary

Dr. Nabanita Chowdhary, a musician par excellence, is one of the foremost Hindustani Classical vocalists in India. She is an adroit artiste possessing an eternally soulful blend of spiritual melody and divine aesthetics.

Creativity and improvisation are the essences of Nabanita's performances. Nabanita received initial musical guidance at a very tender age from her mother. Subsequently she augmented radiance, grace and lustre to the presentation of her art under the tutelages of renowned stalwarts like Padma Bhushans Pandits Rajan-Sajan Misra, Padma Bhushan Vidushi Shobha Gurtu, Pt. Deepak Chatterjee ‘Rasik Rang’ etc. for the past 44 years. 

Nabanita secured the First position in Hindustani Classical music in both B.A. / M.A. courses and holds a PhD in music. 

Besides being a resplendent recipient of several awards, titles, scholarships and accolades of national and international importance, Nabanita is an “A Grade” artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She regularly performs for several chain concerts for ICCR, SPICMACAY, Radio Sangeet Sammelans & National Programmes for AIR/Doordarshan, and sundry private television channels.

The brilliance of Nabanita lies in her own distinctive blend of styles, her creativity and a magical voice capable of expressing every emotion. Despite having pure taleem in the Khayal and Thumri-Dadra genres, Nabanita’s versatility encompasses the lighter realms of Classical Music too such as Sufi, Ghazal, Kajri, Chaiti, Jhula, Geet and Bhajans. She has also cut a deep niche for herself in Rabindra Sangeet (Hindi and Bengali), Nazrul Geeti, folk music and modern songs. Her phenomenal presentations received rave reviews in India and abroad.

Her Murkis, Gamaks and the imagination with which she weaves together the clusters of notes hold her listeners spellbound.
